Desalination Latam
Recognition Ceremony 2024

The desalination industry plays a crucial role in water security, economic development and environmental protection in Chile. Its importance will only increase in the future as the country faces growing challenges related to water scarcity and climate change.

Together with our official sponsors The Ministry of Mining from Chile, SPONSORS, we want to honour innovations and best practices, as well as recognize the accomplishments, initiatives, and teamwork that motivate the sector to move towards a more environmentally friendly future.

On our Desalination Latam Recognition Ceremony, we will recognise inspiring practices in the following categories:

1. Joint Commitment to Environmental Stewardship Award:

The Joint Commitment to Environmental Stewardship award recognizes outstanding achievements in the joint efforts of companies in the desalination sector to promote social, environmental, and economic responsibility. This category highlights partnerships that go beyond business transactions and demonstrate a commitment to inclusive community engagement, environmental stewardship, and innovative solutions for sustainable water management. The recipient of this award demonstrates exemplary practices in fostering collaboration for positive regional impact and advocacy for industry-wide cooperation around environmental preservation and the pursuit of sustainability, setting a commendable standard for the desalination industry in general.

2. Water-Energy Nexus Integration Award:

The Water-Energy Nexus Integration Award acknowledges companies that have successfully harmonized desalination practices with energy-efficient solutions, recognizing the pivotal intersection between water and energy management. This accolade celebrates initiatives that prioritize sustainability, innovation, and collaboration in addressing the complex challenges posed by water scarcity and energy consumption. By highlighting exemplary integration of desalination processes with renewable energy sources, energy-efficient technologies, and environmentally conscious practices. This award also aims to inspire new advances in the field, so it recognizes successful projects as well as those in planned development.

3. Inclusive Water Access Award:

The Inclusive Water Access Award honours initiatives that prioritize increasing clean water access in underserved areas through innovative desalination projects. These efforts target communities facing water scarcity or socio-economic challenges, leveraging advanced technologies like reverse osmosis to produce high-quality freshwater for consumption and irrigation. Successful nominees engage in collaborative partnerships, involve local stakeholders, and showcase innovation in overcoming barriers to water access. By providing affordable and sustainable solutions, these initiatives have a transformative impact on health, livelihoods, and overall well-being, making a significant difference in the lives of underserved populations throughout Chile.

4. Sustainable Resource Stewardship Award:

The Sustainable Resource Stewardship Distinction acknowledges mining companies that demonstrate outstanding commitment to sustainable resource management, specifically through the use of desalinated water to alleviate pressure on natural water reservoirs. Nominees showcase forward-thinking strategies, such as partnerships with desalination plants and water exchange schemes, to ensure sustainable water management practices while meeting operational needs. By promoting the efficient use of water resources and investing in sustainable mining practices, nominees for this distinction contribute to long-term environmental sustainability and community well-being.

5. Innovative Desalination Technology Award:

Recognizes service companies that have demonstrated outstanding innovation in desalination, water and wastewater technology.
